RE: Gas and Mileage Calculations

Everyone,
Thanks for all the responses, I was pretty sure there were only a few ways to guestimate the mpg's.
Cloud Driver-Not going to the casino to gamble just to camp, the wife is from Syracuse/Liver Pool area! I was waiting for a sarcastic comment like that! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gas and Mileage Calculations

Hi,
What is the most accurate way to calculate gas and mileage when pulling your trailer with your tow vehicle?
I am sure this topic has been discussed thoroughly but the DW and I are trying to figure affordability of gas from Bedford Nh to Turning Stone Casino in Verona NY, the gas will be the make it or break it factor. Is there some sort of program that can do this accurately??
I drive and Expedition and pull a jayco 26l. We normally camp in S Londonderry VT which is 2.5 (about 240 miles round trip) hours away and this runs me a half a tank each way. But this is hilly terrain!
The debate is this: We are guessing the trip to NY will be better mpg because terrain is less hilly than VT, but then it is a longer distance.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Bug Repellent? What is everyone using?

Okay, just came back from a weekend trip and the bugs were bad. We had 30% DEET Bug Spray and it didn't do in any good. What is everyone finding to be the most effective bug repellent.
I heard from my SIL and the CG Host that Listerine is the up and coming bug repellent. Yes I am being serious!!!!!!!!
We are heading out again for the 4th of July and we would like to avoid any serious bites due to Triple E and I have young Children.
Thanks in advance.

A Mouse in the house

My BIL found a mouse in his camper, the tell tale signs were only in one place and he didn't find any additional damage so he is pretty sure that there are no more unwanted guests.
The question at hand is what to do to take preventitive measures so this does not happen again?
Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Toys for Toddlers

The funny thing is that DW and I thought maybe we were missing something, but we have pretty much done everything posted in here so far, it's good to know we are in the same mind set as others!
Oh, and TravelwithTriplets, and Mamakitten3, you guys are insane, we thought we had it bad with twins and a 4yo, you just reduced our complaints in half! LOL :)

RE: Cost of campground rates going up...........

DW and I found CGS have gone up about $10-15 a nite as well, we are sticking with federal CG's I have a golden access pass and it runs me $36(3 nites) for a weekend for w/e and includes my reservation fee, plus the money goes back into our country and its natural resources. Plus with the cost of gas these lower camping fees help keep it all in perspective. But if I didnt have the access pass I would still go federal its your best bet.

RE: Massachusetts CGs

If you have young kids I reccomend Minute Man Campground. Very Family oriented, they have a nice play ground, it has been owne by the same family for over twenty years. Plus the area has dairy farms for tours and ice cream and mini golf. We fell in love with this CG because it is close and simple for a last minute getaway! I highly reccomend it and if you have any questions send me a PM. I have a 4 yo and 19 month old twin girls, there is no tomfoolery at this CG just a good time for the family!

Toys for Toddlers

Ok DW and I are racking our brain trying to figure out what types of outdoor toys to bring for our kids besides the typical balls, trucks frisbees, bubbles and such. What do other people bring that they find to be original and entertaining?
DS is four but he has camping down with exploring and fishing but we now have 19 month old twin girls and they pose the challeng of what to bring.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and as always thanks in advance!

Whats too cold for camping in a Jayco 26l in White Mts NH

Okay, we are itching to go camping, but we have 3 young kids, a 4yo and twin 19 month olds, and we are worried about what would be too cold to keep the inside of the camper warm. We are thinking( I am thinking It will be warm enough) it maybe be too cold inside the camper because temps will reach into the low 40's at night but 60's during the day. I dont know how this trailer will fair in this type of weather.
Any opinions or stories will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: Disney Dinner passes?

Additonally if you were in the parks and didnt plan lunch or dinner at the park that day you would have to go back to your trailer and sometimes time is money when your on vacation. Obviously money is a factor but if you think about it, the benefits out weigh the costs.

RE: Disney Dinner passes?

We are a family of 5 2 adults 1 child and 2 infants we dont have to pay for yet, and the dining plan works out for us because we hit the character buffets and everyone eats so ditch doc is right on. Unfortunately they do make you buy the plan for your whole trip, but if you get the plan you can do some serious fine dining at their upper scale restaurants if you choose. We did dinner in the castle with the fairy godmoms, and it was nice, not to over charactery you get a nice photo (2 If your a party of 5 or more) and it is pretty elegant! We also ate at Boma in Animal Kingdom lodge it a regular dining credit but you get some great cuisine from africa. Now if you were to go to just those restaurants alone it would cost you close to 300 with tips and drinks, but if you take the meal plan it will cost you $600 and you get food for every day, and it is alot of food. We think its worth it because you do get a lot of bang for your buck. Also if I am correct they are offering free dining with your stay at fort wilderness during the month of june, you just have to ask the cast member when making your ressie. PM me if you have more questions, we are semi-disney freaks, and my wife was a travel agent so she has a great mindset for the rationlization of it all. One final point, between the dinners out that you would like to do and the food you will buy for you fiver it would probably equal out in cost as well. But once again with the dining plan you eat well and get some great deserts!!!!!!!!

RE: Orlando Campground suggestions

I heard Turkey lake State Park in orlando is about $18 for water and electric and is quite nice, check out the info on the florida state park website, but like camping mode said, consider the extras plus the price of gas and the price of time running back and forth. Also you will be exhausted from being at the park and who would want to fight traffic or just driving to where you were staying when you could take a boat ride or a bus ride and your at your home away from home. Best of luck but I think if you camp the fort once you will be hooked. It is pretty cheap for camping if you think about it, and if you can get a AAA auto discount of about 10-15% it would be well worth it to stay there. See if you can get an Orlando Magic Card discount for Disney also, that is the local florida Card that offers some nice discounts and the card is free from the florida tourism website. Let us know how you make out and send me a pm if you need any more questions answered about the fort.

RE: Fort Wilderness

We went this January and we had two great pool days with temps in the 80's and humid. They said this year was unseasonably warm. I say dont worry about it that is the lowest crowd times of the year. PM if you want to know more! We are going to the FT this October and think it will be warm enough for the pool as well.
